This ranch-style log home was built in the Spring of 2009 in Telkwa, BC, by Brian Harrison of Harrison Log Homes (www.harrisonloghomes.com). The logs are winter-cut spruce and pine from the Bulkley Valley area, north of Prince George, BC.
The home is erected on a back-filled concrete foundation. An in-floor heated slab provides the heating, supplemented with a free standing airtight Pacific Energy stove. Two bay windows, or "carousels" provide a wide angle view of Saturna Island and Plumper Sound, and capture the light during the long winters; very necessary on this Northern-exposure site.
Inside, each room features at least one exterior 9 ft log wall, but the room dividers are standard wood frame and painted drywall construction. Most rooms have a flat drywall ceiling, but the living room has a slight "vault", raising its height to 12 ft at the center.
The logs are treated on their exterior surfaces with 2 coats of Sikkens Cetol Log & Siding, in a "Natural" tint.
